DAYS 8+9 - PAKSE AND FLYING TO LUANG PRABANG

Wat Phou officially ticked, time to quit Champasak and see something of Pakse for the night.  It's slightly shabby but there are still a few remaining French colonial-style buildings and pleasant Wat Luang.  Our hotel was a distinct improvement, with a smashing pool all to ourselves, overlooking the (somewhat greyer!) Mekong

and a room looking out onto the 2002 Lao-Japan Mekong River Bridge, busy with traffic as it's the route down to borders with both Thailand and Cambodia

Fortified by a splendid 30th anniversary breakfast, Thursday's outing was to Pakse's Wat Luang

where, again, lively colour, very fine detail,

All too soon, back to Pakse airport, where not much seemed to be happening for our flight to Luang Prabang...

though we did like the priority boarding sign
