We wake to find a few HGVs have joined us in the night to share our roadside bay - it's obviously a more popular spot than we realised. It's a
beautiful sunny day as we head off for Porvenir, where the ferry will leave for Punta Arenas, where we're due to drop off the Vadar Van. When the road splits, we choose the longer coastal route, pretty with sweeping Bahia
Inutil sea bays, interspersed with remote estancias and fishing
vessels
Old cars pass us, going the other way – a bit cold for open tops!

After a quick pass through Porvenir
there ferry's already in port
Off we go
It gets windier as we approach Punta Arenas and, after the first cars unload, the port buildings start to move so the crew abandon disembankation, close the doors and put us hard into reverse. After several rotations and half an hour of failed attempts, we make port again – this time, facing the wrong way, so everyone has gingerly to U-turn, except the lorries which reverse off.

Along the seafront
road into town, stopping to see Pacific. We aim for a campsite in Parque Chabunco, overlooking the water
